Mexico City Bans Alcohol Sales Ahead of World Cup Match vs. Czech Republic
Authorities in Mexico City have announced a ban on alcohol sales ahead of the upcoming World Cup match between Mexico and the Czech Republic scheduled for Wednesday. The restrictions will apply in several districts of the capital following last week’s mass gatherings, where over 700,000 people flooded the city center, engaging in widespread drinking and leaving behind large amounts of litter.
The ban will be in effect from 15:00 to 07:00 UTC, covering the time of the match. While bars and restaurants will be exempt from the restrictions, convenience stores and supermarkets in the historic downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods will be affected. This includes the popular entertainment district and Reforma Avenue, traditional spots where fans celebrate victories.
