Barcelona Targets Harry Kane as Lewandowski’s Replacement
Barcelona has unexpectedly shown interest in England captain Harry Kane as they search for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who is set to join Chicago Fire.
According to the Daily Mail, the La Liga champions approached Kane’s representatives but were turned down, as the striker is currently fully focused on the World Cup.
The 32-year-old Kane has one year remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich but intends to sign a new deal.
Barcelona’s attacking options are limited following Lewandowski’s departure at the end of his contract, with the Polish forward moving to the MLS side Chicago Fire on a free transfer.
Ferran Torres and new signing Anthony Gordon, acquired for £69 million, primarily operate as wingers but can also play centrally if required.
Marcus Rashford was another attacking option during his loan spell at Camp Nou last season, but he is unlikely to return on a permanent basis this summer.
The club is seeking a more traditional striker in the mold of Lewandowski, who scored 120 goals in 193 appearances for Barcelona, and clearly believes that the prolific Kane fits that profile.
Last season, the Englishman netted 61 goals in 51 matches across all competitions for Bayern, helping them secure both the Bundesliga and German Cup titles. Kane also claimed the Bundesliga top scorer award for the second time.
