According to the publication A BOLA, Benfica’s head coach Marko Silva has made a definitive decision to change the club’s starting goalkeeper. For the 2026/27 season, young goalkeeper Samuel Soares will take over the position instead of Ukrainian Anatoliy Trubin.
The coach reportedly favored Soares due to his superior ability to initiate attacking plays. Unlike Trubin, Samuel has consistently stood out in this regard—he is proactive and courageous. A BOLA highlights an example from the second half of the match against Académico de Viseu, where Soares advanced from his goal all the way to the midfield to halt the opponent’s attack.
Marko Silva demands an active role from his goalkeepers in launching attacks, encouraging them to take risks rather than retreat. This approach is particularly crucial against teams that employ high pressing. In contrast, Trubin tends to be more cautious and defensive—when sensing danger, he often opts to clear the ball. Silva wants to move away from this style of play.
Trubin has already expressed his desire to leave Benfica, and the club is open to transfer negotiations. There were reports from Italy suggesting Juventus might be interested, but these have not been confirmed. Currently, there are no official offers for the Ukrainian goalkeeper.
