Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois reflected on his team’s commanding 5-1 victory over New Zealand, a result that secured their place at the top of their group and advanced them to the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup.
“It’s very satisfying to finally get our first win. We created plenty of chances again, and this time we converted five goals, which gives us a lot of confidence ahead of the upcoming matches,” Courtois said.
“We played a strong game. We were sharp in our duels and didn’t give the opponent any advantage. Now that we’ve reached the knockout phase, every match is do-or-die. We are building our confidence, and our level must continue to improve. We’ll see who we face in the next round, and then we’ll give it our all once again,” the player told FIFA’s official website.
