Iran Requests FIFA Avoid LGBT Displays During World Cup Match vs Egypt
The Iranian national team has formally requested FIFA to refrain from holding ceremonies or displaying advertising featuring LGBT symbols during their Group Stage match against Egypt.
“The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran takes this matter very seriously and has communicated its position to FIFA. Iran and Egypt are two Muslim countries that share deep cultural and religious values. The views expressed by both federations reflect the beliefs held by the populations of these nations. Our stance is that no ceremonies or promotional activities related to this movement should take place inside the stadium,” a representative of the Iranian team told RMC Sport.
The Iran vs. Egypt match is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, at Lumen Field in Seattle. Kickoff is set for 03:00 UTC.
