According to BBC Sport, a consortium including billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has made significant progress in negotiations to acquire approximately 30% of Liverpool’s shares. The group is led by British-Indian businessman and millionaire Amit Bhatia, and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), confirmed last month that the consortium had expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in the football club.
Amit Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, served as a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers for 18 years before relinquishing his stake in the club last month.
American businessman Jeff Bezos, founder of the e-commerce giant Amazon, is the fourth richest person in the world. Forbes estimates his net worth at $256 billion.
