Laporta Appeals to Tebas to Lift Financial Fair Play Restrictions on Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reached out to La Liga president Javier Tebas, seeking support for the club amid ongoing challenges linked to the continued renovations at Camp Nou, whose full reopening keeps being postponed.
Laporta emphasized the financial strain caused by the stadium’s closure, stating, “Camp Nou will not generate revenue for us until La Liga grants us the financial fair play license. Thank you, Javier, for giving this matter the attention it deserves. Since I consider you a friend and after all we have been through together, as you said, I appreciate your recognition of the efforts made to become the owners of the best stadium in Europe.”
He added that the revamped stadium will be both safe and commercially successful, projecting increased income once the La Liga committee approves the financial fair play license that the club has consistently needed.
Javier Tebas also commented on the situation: “Barcelona will continue to achieve success in the coming years, both on and off the pitch. For La Liga, the renovation of this stadium is crucial to making it one of the best in the world. We have had disagreements, as is always the case. It is important to act with institutional respect,” he noted. “We more or less understand each other, but we are always striving for better.”
