Manuel Neuer Bids Farewell to German Fans After International Retirement
Germany captain Manuel Neuer has bid farewell to the national team fans via Instagram. The 40-year-old goalkeeper is retiring from international football for the second time.
“It has always been an honor for me!
Our early exit from the World Cup is incredibly sobering. We completely failed to meet expectations and should have progressed much further in the tournament. This ending is deeply painful.
I made a conscious decision to play for Germany again. On one hand, wearing the national team jersey has always filled me with immense pride. On the other, at 40 years old and with the experience of four World Cups behind me, I wanted to fully support the younger players both on and off the pitch and help German football.
Despite this bitter elimination, I do not regret that decision for a second. My disappointment is beyond words, but above all, there remains profound gratitude.
Thank you for your support throughout all these years and during this tournament.
Respectfully,
Manuel”
