The Athletic reports that Manchester City has been found guilty on nearly all counts related to breaches of Premier League financial regulations. Out of 115 charges, the English club was acquitted in only one instance.
The violations occurred between 2009 and 2018. The investigation was triggered after the German publication Der Spiegel leaked the club’s financial documents in November 2018.
The Premier League accused Manchester City of failing to provide accurate financial information and complete details regarding payments to players and coaching staff. Additionally, the club was found to have breached financial fair play rules as well as league regulations concerning profitability and sustainable development.
At this stage, the sanctions against Manchester City have not been finalized. According to The Athletic, all potential penalties remain on the table, including fines, points deductions, or even expulsion from the Premier League. However, possible appeals by the club could further prolong the process.
