Mehdi Taremi Expresses Disappointment After Iran’s Draw with Belgium
Iran national team captain Mehdi Taremi reflected on his side’s goalless draw against Belgium. Despite having a numerical advantage from the 67th minute onward, Iran was unable to find the breakthrough.
“I believe we lost the match. Even without the red card to the opponent, we had chances to win. We could have played much better, and we needed to perform at a higher level. That’s why I said we lost,” Taremi explained.
He also praised his goalkeeper’s performance, noting that this was the keeper’s third World Cup. “The first game is always tough for everyone, and he was a bit nervous against New Zealand, but yesterday he was calmer. He did an amazing job, and we are very grateful to him for earning this point.”
Looking ahead, Taremi emphasized the team’s ambition to reach the knockout stages. “We have two points now and one game left. Let’s see what happens next,” he concluded.
