Turkey’s head coach Vincenzo Montella spoke candidly following his team’s 1-0 defeat to Paraguay, a result that extinguished even the faintest hopes of progressing from the group after consecutive losses.
“We hit the post. The crossbar. The side netting. We took up good positions, but nothing came off,” Montella lamented after the match.
“I would understand if we hadn’t created chances, but we did—so many opportunities, yet no goals. When it’s not your day, it’s not your day. Luck simply wasn’t on our side.”
Turkey will face the United States in their final group game, a fixture that will serve as a matter of pride for the Bosphorus side.
