Ronald Koeman Dismisses Criticism Following Netherlands’ World Cup Exit
Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has responded to the criticism following the team’s exit from the 2026 World Cup.
“The whole country said we needed to play with five defenders. We did play with five at the back — and yet we were still criticized. I’ll say it again: I don’t care about the criticism,” Koeman stated in a post-match flash interview.
However, the criticism of Koeman extends beyond the Netherlands. For instance, the renowned Zlatan Ibrahimovic holds the coach responsible for the defeat against Morocco. According to the Swedish star, the Dutch side lost their identity in that match by playing in an uncharacteristic style — a system Koeman imposed on them.
