Rinat Akhmetov, the president of Shakhtar Donetsk, celebrates his 60th birthday today. Remarkably, he has dedicated half of his life to the club, marking three decades at the helm.
During Akhmetov’s 30 years as president, Shakhtar has amassed an impressive haul of 40 trophies. This includes the UEFA Cup, 16 Ukrainian Premier League titles, 14 Ukrainian Cups, and 9 Ukrainian Super Cups.
According to a statement on Shakhtar‘s official website, Akhmetov values not just victory but the manner in which it is achieved. He prefers beautiful, attacking football and believes that winning without entertaining, meaningful play holds little value. In his view, it is better to lose while showcasing vibrant football than to win playing dullly. This philosophy sets him apart from many other club owners.
The president’s passion for Shakhtar runs deep. He understands what it takes to strengthen the club further and continues to invest in building the best Shakhtar in history.
