Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca expressed mixed feelings about his team’s 5-3 victory over Sunderland. Despite the win propelling his side to the top of the Premier League table, Maresca admitted he was not entirely satisfied with the result.
“Honestly, I would have preferred a 1-0 win rather than 5-3, but I expected a very tough match,” Maresca said.
“It was a challenging game, but we managed to find a way to win. It’s also positive that all seven official matches we’ve played this season have been different. We’re gaining varied experience. Last time, we played with ten men, and today was difficult as well. We have an opportunity to learn from this game.
I am always concerned and constantly trying to figure out what we can improve. Two of the goals we conceded were too easy. The second goal came after a quick free-kick by Jacka, and the third was also from a set piece. We missed chances but scored five goals and could have added two or three more.
Of course, we can do better in controlling and retaining possession. There are matches where you want to dominate the game and keep the ball, but the opponent will do everything to make it difficult for us.”
