Barcelona‘s new signing Rodri Hernandez will continue to wear his preferred squad number. The star midfielder, whose signing is set to be officially announced soon, will don the number 16 jersey, previously worn by Fermin Lopez.

“Rodri is a great player. A World Cup winner and Ballon d’Or recipient. I played alongside him in the Spanish national team and consider him the best defensive midfielder in the world. I’ve always loved the number seven, so I took it when I found out it was available. Many of Barcelona’s greats have worn the number seven. It was a bit sad to give up the number 16 because it meant a lot to me, but I’m confident it will be in good hands,” Fermin said, as quoted by Barca Universal.

It is worth noting that Manchester City will receive approximately €76.5 million from the sale of Rodri to Barcelona, including bonuses.
