Ukrainian player Viktor Tsyhankov of Girona had no intention of staging any protests or refusing to take the field. According to those close to the player, the situation was entirely different.

“He was urgently called up on Saturday for the Sunday match – something that should never have happened. The medical staff and coaching team had a report stating he was unfit to play. We do not understand the comments made by coach Kike Alvarez after the game. If the medical report is inaccurate, we urge the club to refute it with evidence. We have that evidence,” a representative of Tsyhankov told Suspilne in an interview.

Spanish media have been circulating the narrative of a protest. They also claim that after the match against Leganés, a conflict erupted in Girona’s dressing room regarding this issue.
