Shakhtar Resumes Talks for Uruguayan Defender Alan Matturro from Genoa
Negotiations between Genoa and Shakhtar Donetsk over the Uruguayan defender Alan Matturro—which Shakhtar had seemingly abandoned—have not been completely closed, journalist Viktor Vatsko reports, without revealing further details.
Shakhtar had planned to take Matturro on a one-year loan with an option to buy, but the clubs failed to agree on the terms, prompting the Donetsk side to withdraw from talks. It was reported that Genoa head coach Daniele De Rossi was the main obstacle, having been firmly opposed to letting the Uruguayan leave from the start.
Matturro, a native of Montevideo, began his career at Uruguayan club Defensor Sporting. He has represented his country at the U15 and U20 levels. In 2023, he was transferred to Genoa for €3 million. Last season, he spent time on loan at Levante, where he made 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing one assist. His current market value on Transfermarkt stands at €4 million.
