Pau Cubarsí Leads Updated Golden Boy 2026 Contenders List
Spain and Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has emerged as the frontrunner in the updated list of contenders for the Golden Boy 2026 award. This update was announced on the award’s official account on the social platform X.
Following Cubarsi in the top five candidates are his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, the newly signed Real Madrid player Yan Diomande, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery, and Ayoub Bouaddi, who is currently a Lille player but is expected to join Manchester City soon.
The Golden Boy award is presented annually to the best footballer under the age of 21 who plays in one of Europe’s top-tier leagues. According to the rules, a player can only win this award once in their career. This means that Lamine Yamal is ineligible to win the prize again, having already claimed it in 2024.
