Tottenham Nears Deal to Sign Sandro Tonali, Romano Confirms
Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Sandro Tonali, according to insider Fabrizio Romano, with the deal reportedly close to completion.
Romano reveals that Tottenham are currently the only club actively pursuing the Italian midfielder from Newcastle.
The London side has already had a productive transfer window, securing free agents Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dúbravka from Liverpool, Bournemouth, and Burnley respectively.
In addition, Tottenham invested £52 million to acquire one of head coach Roberto De Zerbi’s top targets, Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.
The club’s owners have promised to back the Italian manager with significant investment. Newcastle have already rejected a £75 million offer for Tonali, as the Magpies are aiming to receive around £100 million for the 26-year-old this summer.
Sources indicate that Tonali is open to a move to Tottenham, which could help expedite the transfer if the two clubs can agree on a fee.
Romano clarified the situation, emphasizing that Tottenham remain the sole club involved in negotiations at this stage: “Regarding Sandro Tonali, I keep receiving many questions, with Arsenal and Manchester City often mentioned. What’s happening with Tonali? Will he join Tottenham or not? I stand by my statement from last week—this is an exclusive and unexpected update: Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, period.
I keep mentioning Tottenham and Tonali, Tonali and Tottenham. I maintain my position. Tottenham are working on signing Sandro Tonali, and that remains the case. The deal is ongoing. Tottenham, Tonali. I won’t mention Manchester City here, nor any other clubs. Since I told you about Tottenham last week, I haven’t mentioned other clubs, so let’s keep an eye on the situation, but the deal will happen.”
