The Ukraine national team got off to a strong start at the Youth European Championship, securing a 3-1 victory over Croatia in their opening group stage match.
According to the official UAF website, Croatia took the lead in the first half through a goal by Ivan Barić. However, Ukraine managed to equalize before halftime thanks to Dmitriy Bogdanov. In the second half, Nikita Kalyuzhny and Pavel Lyusin added goals to seal the win.
After the match, head coach Dmytro Mykhaylenko commented: “We knew it would be a very tough game, and it was. That makes this victory even more satisfying because the players showed great character. I am pleased with the win and how the team performed throughout the match.”
Ukraine’s next fixture under Dmytro Mykhaylenko will be against Serbia on July 2.
