Yuri Tielemans Scores Latest Goal in World Cup History for Belgium
The penalty scored by Belgian captain Youri Tielemans in yesterday’s extraordinary match against Senegal has set a new record for the latest goal ever scored in World Cup history, according to an official announcement from FIFA.
The goal is officially recorded at the 125th minute, more precisely at 124:44. This unusually late timing was due to prolonged disputes and discussions among Senegalese players, as well as additional time added by the referee during extra time.
This now stands as the new official record. The previous record was held by Algerian Abdelmoumene Djabou, who scored against Germany in the Round of 16 at 120:49 during the 2014 World Cup. Before him, the record belonged to the renowned Italian Alessandro Del Piero, who netted against Germany in the 2006 World Cup semifinal at 120:13.
