Billy Donovan Joins San Antonio as Assistant Coach Under Mitch Johnson
Billy Donovan has agreed to join Mitch Johnson’s coaching staff in San Antonio as the lead assistant.
The 61-year-old coach spent the last 11 years as a head coach in the NBA. From 2015 to 2020, he was at the helm of Oklahoma City, followed by six seasons leading Chicago.
During this period, Donovan amassed 469 wins against 413 losses, posting a winning percentage of 53.2%. However, his playoff record was less impressive, with 19 victories and 27 defeats, a 41.3% success rate. His teams were eliminated in the first round of the postseason five times.
Donovan also led Florida to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007.
