Benfica head coach Marcos Silva, who recently relegated Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin to the bench, expressed satisfaction with his player’s somber mood, viewing it as a natural response that will motivate him to work harder.

“Honestly, I would be surprised if Trubin wasn’t upset or feeling down. What matters to me is that tomorrow he will come to Benfica’s training ground, and I have no doubt he will train just as diligently as he has over the past 10–15 days. If he’s not in the best spirits right now, I would probably feel the same in his position,” the coach said, according to the club’s official statement.

Yesterday, as has been the case throughout the season, Trubin remained on the bench for the entire match as Benfica thrashed Casa Pia 7-0. The manager opted to start Samuel Soares, whom he considers a more modern goalkeeper.
