Diana Biankedi Resigns as Head of Italy’s National Team Delegation After Two Months
Olympic fencing champion Diana Biankedi has resigned from her position as head of the national team’s delegation, a role she took over from Gianluigi Buffon. Her departure was prompted by a public conflict of interest and pressure from Italy’s sports minister, Andrea Abodi. Biankedi had been balancing her duties with the national team alongside her role as vice president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).
“I am stepping down out of profound respect for the sports institutions. This decision is made to shield the national team from pointless disputes. The Italian team remains united and motivated,” Biankedi said in response to her resignation.
