Belgian international and Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku has welcomed his first child. The 24-year-old was granted time off to travel to London for the birth of his son.
The Belgian Football Association confirmed that Doku and his wife, Shirin, celebrated the arrival of their newborn. The Manchester City star was allowed to leave the national team’s training camp shortly before their group stage match against Iran in order to be present for this special occasion.
“Before the match, Jérémy received news that the birth would happen sooner than expected. After consulting with the national team’s medical staff, it was decided to allow him to join his wife in London,” the Belgian Football Association stated.
It is worth noting that not everyone understood the player’s decision; a prominent L’Equipe presenter even criticized him on air and was promptly dismissed from the channel.
