In Group E of the 2026 World Cup, the final round of matches kicks off today with Germany facing Ecuador, while Curaçao takes on Ivory Coast simultaneously.
Germany has already secured the top spot in the group after a dominant 7-1 victory over Curaçao and a narrow 2-1 win against Ivory Coast. However, due to injuries, Brown, Karl, and Schlotterbeck will miss the third match. Despite these absences, Julian Nagelsmann is expected to implement squad rotation.
Ecuador currently holds just one point, having lost 0-1 to Ivory Coast and drawn 0-0 with Curaçao, putting their chances of advancing from the group in serious jeopardy.
It’s worth noting that these two sides have met only twice before: twenty years ago at the World Cup in Germany, where the Germans defeated Ecuador 3-0, and seven years later in a friendly match, which Germany won 4-2.
