Greek-Born Konstantinos Plish Chooses to Represent Ukraine U-19 Team
Ukraine U-19 international Konstantinos Plish has opened up about his decision to represent the “yellow-blues.” The midfielder was born in Greece to a Ukrainian family.
The 19-year-old central midfielder made his debut for Ukraine U-19 in September last year and has since appeared in five matches for the team.
“I have never been to Ukraine. My parents taught me to speak Ukrainian when I was a child. At first, I probably learned Ukrainian, and then when I started kindergarten and school, I learned Greek,” Plish explained in an interview with the Ukrainian Association of Football press service.
“Until last year, I did not have Greek citizenship, so my only option was the Ukrainian national team. Last year, I obtained Greek citizenship and had a choice.
But I wanted to play for Ukraine because I believe it is something close to me. I feel that I am Ukrainian. That’s why I wanted to try, to get to know the guys, to play football with them, because I feel Ukrainian,” he added.
It is worth noting that Konstantinos Plish is currently competing with the Ukraine U-19 squad in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
