Colombian international James Rodríguez revealed after the match against Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo that they share a strong friendship.
“He has been a close friend of mine since our time together at Real Madrid, and he is also a wonderful person. We developed a solid bond, and I often visited his home. He’s an incredible individual and a role model for everyone—just look at his physique at 41 years old and what he continues to achieve. He’s a great athlete. I admire him greatly and feel a deep affection for him.”
Before the game, Cristiano and James, both captains of their national teams, met once again. “Looking sharp,” the Colombian said; “Brother, how are you?” replied the Portuguese star. They exchanged hugs, shared a few smiles, and wished each other well with “Hope everything goes well!” before running onto the pitch.
The match between Colombia and Portugal ended in a goalless draw.
