Jeff Bezos Consortium Buys Minority Stake in Liverpool, Spurs Leadership Changes
Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool, have agreed to sell a minority stake to a consortium that includes billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
In an official statement, Fenway Sports Group confirmed the completion of the deal.
Following the acquisition, British-Indian businessman and millionaire Amit Bhatia will assume the role of vice-chairman at Liverpool and join the expanded board of directors, pending regulatory approval.
American entrepreneur Jeff Bezos, the founder of the e-commerce giant Amazon and the world’s fourth richest individual with an estimated net worth of $256 billion (£192 billion), is entering the sports business for the first time. However, he will not take a seat on Liverpool‘s board of directors.
According to BBC Sport, the transaction will not affect the club’s plans for the transfer window, and no new or separate transfer budget will be created as a result of the investment.
