Jurgen Klopp Reflects on Failed Attempt to Sign Konrad Laimer for Liverpool
During his work at the 2026 World Cup, Jürgen Klopp reflected on his Liverpool days. Ahead of Austria’s national team match, he admitted that in 2023 he had failed to lure Konrad Laimer.
At that time, Austria’s best player had left RB Leipzig and joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer.
“I wanted to bring him to Liverpool as a defensive midfielder, but he moved to Bayern,” the former Liverpool manager said in his role as a World Cup expert for MagentaTV.
“Regarding Laimer, I can say this: in my team, he would have played as a defensive midfielder,” he added.
Ultimately, Laimer became one of Bayern’s indispensable players, while Klopp left Liverpool a year later.
