Liverpool Faces PSG Competition in Race to Sign Yan Diomande
Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Yan Diomande, though they may soon face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.
The Reds have intensified their efforts to secure a second signing under Andoni Iraola’s management, having completed the acquisition of Victor Munoz from Osasuna earlier this week. Diomande has emerged as their next target, with Liverpool making it clear to RB Leipzig that they are prepared to offer around €100 million for the forward.
An initial bid has already been submitted and rejected. It remains uncertain whether Liverpool will submit an improved offer, but they may now need to be wary of PSG entering the race.
The Parisian club is also interested in Diomande, although they have yet to make an official approach to the German side.
Reports have indicated that PSG must offload one or two of their current attacking players before pursuing Diomande. Journalist David Ornstein has noted that Luis Enrique’s team will not make an offer unless the player himself expresses a desire to move to Paris.
Following Ivory Coast’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador at the World Cup—where he earned the man of the match award—Diomande impressed reporters by speaking in English, prompting one to ask if he was interested in playing in the Premier League.
“I don’t know. I’m an RB Leipzig player, but why not? My agents will sort that out,” the Ivorian replied.
“As for me, I’m focused on the World Cup, that’s the most important thing. It doesn’t happen all the time, only once every four years, so I’m making the most of it, and as for the rest, we’ll see,” Diomande added.
