Portugal Prime Minister’s Intervention Fails to Change Ronaldo’s Exit Decision
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro held talks with the national team coach Jorge Jesus following Cristiano Ronaldo‘s announcement that he would be stepping away from the squad.
The president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença, received a call from the prime minister, who requested a conversation with Jorge Jesus. Luís Montenegro also spoke directly with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite the intervention from the country’s political leader, the issue remained unresolved. Ronaldo feels betrayed by Jorge Jesus, who did not publicly apologize during a press conference.
Meanwhile, the national team has already assigned the number seven jersey to Rafael Leão. This change has been officially confirmed in the squad list published on UEFA’s website.
