Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team approached their Saturday fixture knowing that a victory over Colombia would secure them first place in Group K and potentially offer a more favorable route through the knockout stages. Portugal had started the tournament with a disappointing draw against DR Congo before thrashing Uzbekistan 5-0, accumulating four points ahead of the crucial final group match.

However, Portugal settled for a goalless draw, allowing Colombia to top the group with seven points while Portugal finished second with five. Bruno Fernandes came closest to breaking the deadlock, forcing an excellent save from Camilo Vargas, and a late goal by Davinson Sanchez for Colombia was ruled out for offside in an intense but scoreless encounter.
