Egypt’s captain Mohamed Salah reflected on the significance of his team’s 3-1 victory over New Zealand, a match in which he also scored.
“This is incredible. I don’t even know how to put it into words. It is a huge achievement for all the players and the entire staff. I hope we can keep this momentum going, make history by advancing from the group stage, and that in the future this will be remembered as one of the greatest accomplishments in Egyptian football,” Salah said.
He added, “We must enjoy today, and then focus on the next game.”
It is worth noting that this win marked Egypt’s first-ever victory in World Cup history.
