US Soccer Seeks Mauricio Pochettino to Lead Team Through 2030 World Cup
The United States Soccer Federation has offered Mauricio Pochettino a contract extension through to the 2030 World Cup following the team’s impressive start at their home tournament. The Americans confidently topped Group D, securing victories over Paraguay and Australia, while their 3-2 defeat to Turkey on Thursday had no impact on their progression. On July 1 in San Francisco, the hosts will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 16. Negotiations had been ongoing for months, with the offer presented even before the World Cup began, as the federation is keen to retain the Argentine coach.
The experienced manager, who previously enjoyed success with Tottenham, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, naturally attracts interest from top European clubs. Ahead of the tournament, there were rumors linking him to AC Milan, but that position was ultimately filled by Rúben Amorim. Nevertheless, Pochettino remains the top priority for American soccer officials, who hope he will continue not only through the upcoming stages of the World Cup but also in preparations for the 2028 Olympics and the future Copa América.
