The Golden State Warriors have established a commanding lead in total luxury tax payments among NBA teams since the system’s inception in 2002.
Over this period, the Warriors have contributed an additional $762 million to the league in luxury tax payments. This figure is nearly double that of their closest competitor.
Ranking second in this list are the Los Angeles Clippers, who have paid $407 million in luxury taxes, followed by the New York Knicks in third place with $332 million. The top five also include the Brooklyn Nets with $312 million, the Phoenix Suns with $289 million, and the Los Angeles Lakers, who have also paid $289 million.
