Kuman Confirms De Jong’s Fitness Doubt Ahead of Sweden Clash
Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has revealed that key midfielder Frenkie de Jong is currently dealing with a health issue. The Barcelona star finished the opening World Cup match against Japan carrying an injury, putting his availability for the upcoming clash with Sweden in serious doubt.
De Jong is experiencing discomfort in his abdominal muscles following the last game for the Dutch national team, prompting the coaching staff to monitor his condition closely in recent hours. Although the injury is not considered severe, his participation against the Scandinavian side remains uncertain.
Koeman is taking a cautious approach and is reluctant to risk one of his pivotal playmakers. “Frenkie is feeling discomfort in his abdominal area,” Koeman confirmed.
The Netherlands began the tournament with a 2-2 draw against Japan and are set to face group F leaders Sweden today.
