Newcastle and England defender Lewis Hall has revealed that he was reluctant to join Manchester United due to the vision for the team presented to him by Newcastle‘s new head coach, Matthias Jaissle.
During the summer, Manchester United showed strong interest in the 22-year-old left-back as they searched for reinforcements in that position. However, the “Red Devils” decided against making a serious move after Newcastle made it clear they had no intention of letting Hall go.
Hall himself was keen to stay at Newcastle and spoke in detail about why he plans to continue representing the club for many years to come.
“I think when you’re linked with another club, it shows you’re doing things right. It’s a deserved recognition of your performances, the kind of player and person you are. I took it as a positive sign but at the same time, I knew how much I love playing here.
After just a few conversations and training sessions, I realized this coach would bring huge benefits to the club. I understood how important it was for the team to bring in new players and strengthen the squad. Once we did that, signing a new contract became an obvious and easy decision for me.
He (Jaissle) is a great guy. He treats me very well. He gives me the freedom to express myself on the pitch, as long as I work hard defensively and cover the necessary running required for the position, which is quite demanding. But I’m happy to do that if it helps the team. He has become a positive figure for everyone who has joined the club,” Hall explained.
It is worth noting that Hall recently signed a new contract with Newcastle and has returned to the England squad after missing the World Cup.
