Spain extended their unbeaten streak to 40 matches, setting a new world record by thrashing Croatia 4-1 in the second round of the UEFA Nations League group stage (League A).
The last time Spain lost in regular time was in March 2024 during a friendly against Colombia (0-1). In official matches, the last defeat in normal time came in March 2023. Back then, in the second round of the Euro qualifiers Group A, Luis de la Fuente’s side fell 0-2 to Scotland.
With this victory, Spain surpassed their own record for the longest unbeaten run in official matches, which they had set last summer during the World Cup final (38 games). The previous record was held by Italy, established between September 2018 and October 2021. Notably, Spain’s loss in the 2025 Nations League final to Portugal, decided on penalties (2-2, 3-5 on penalties), is not counted as a defeat in regular time.
